Pedal for the Planet launch

Take action on climate change

Pedal for the Planet is our chance for individuals, organizations and communities to join together, to ensure that Canada does its fair share to tackle the climate crisis. Starting on July 3, people across the country will join rides and walks leaving the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Using bikes, trains and other modes of green transport, we will demonstrate our personal commitment to change, and relay our expectations for a Copenhagen climate treaty on to Ottawa.

Get involved!

Volunteers are needed every step of the way. We need: cyclists and walkers to join rides and walks, tour leaders who have experience with long-distance cycling trips, people to drive a hybrid electric support vehicle, and help finding organic farms and campgrounds where people can stay. We also need donations to ensure that this is a successful event across the country. Contact someone in your region to find out how you can participate!

Tip of the hat to Alan M.

Mayor John Fenik is welcoming a group of cyclists coming into Perth on Sunday September 13th as part of "From Canada to Copenhagen: Pedal for the Planet". This KYOTOplus initiative is a cross-country bicycle relay, calling for action on climate change. The riders head on to Ottawa on September 14th, and then congregate at Parliament Hill at noon on September 15th.

The cyclists are expected to arrive in Perth between noon and 1:00 pm, and will be greeted (and treated to lunch) by Mayor Fenik at the Perth Museum (11 Gore St E) before heading on towards Ottawa. You are all encouraged to come out and help welcome them. Better yet, come by bike and ride in or out or Perth with them for a ways, and support their call for action.
