TVO AgendaCamp in Brockville: Reinventing Ontario
tvo.org
The recent economic turmoil in the province has led many to discuss the future of our traditional industry and how it must change to be competitive in the 21st century. But given the global nature of the economic downturn, the way the world economy is evolving, the way our society is changing (i.e. increasingly diverse and with a growing number of seniors), the questions Ontario faces go beyond business and industry. Ontario needs to change in ways that transcend economics, health care, education and communities. With our "Reinventing Ontario" series, TVO wants to launch a discussion on the ways in which Ontario needs to change to be a great place in which to live, learn and work in the coming decades.
With this in mind, on Monday March 1 The Agenda with Steve Paikin will be broadcast live from the Brockville Arts Centre with the discussion focusing on topics that are raised at a day-long event we call "AgendaCamp". AgendaCamp is a conference taking place on February 28th at St. Lawrence College where community leaders, political figures, representatives of the business and academic communities and others engage with regular citizens about the issues the City of Brockville (and Ontario) face in changing to meet the needs of the 21st century. The day will begin with various people participating in sessions on topics they have proposed. Some examples of possible topics one could propose:
° How do we turn Brockville and surrounding areas into a major tourist destination?
° Transforming local infrastructure to meet the needs of an aging population
° How can we transform the area into a green power hub?
Various sessions will take place in the morning of the 28th. In the afternoon, the topics that generated the most interest will be further discussed among the participants with some general conclusions being formulated at the end of the afternoon by all involved.
There are a number of reasons for being part of this event, including:
° It is a great opportunity to connect with members of the community on topics of interest to them.
° It is a way to demonstrate you are engaged at the grassroots level in your community.
° It is an opportunity for you to put forward ideas you think would be of benefit to the community
° Conclusions reached at the various sessions will be put on a special website, where they will exist permanently and gain further publicity
° Of great importance to TVO: What is discussed at the AgendaCamp will shape what is discussed during the live broadcast the following day.
