The current budget officer, Lesley White, has been tapped for a promotion. She will assume the role of manager of strategic initiatives, where her job will be to ensure the city is on track with its strategic plan, particularly in regards to financial and environmental sustainability.

Casselman said a "techie team" will be entrusted with researching smart water meters, looking at examples across Canada with a view to drawing up a strategy for smart meters here by July 1.
